Adult film star Stormy Daniels made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live, warning US President Donald Trump that a storm is coming.

Ms Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is suing Mr Trump and his former lawyer Michael Cohen over a non-disclosure agreement she signed to keep quiet about an alleged affair with Mr Trump.

Ms Daniels appeared on the show's opening sketch as herself on the phone with the President, played by Alec Baldwin.

When Baldwin, as Mr Trump, askes Ms Daniels what he can do "for this to all go away", she replies: "A resignation."

"I solved North and South Korea, why can't I solve us?" Baldwin, as Mr Trump, said.

"Sorry Donald, it's too late for that. I know you don't believe in climate change, but a storm's a coming, baby," Ms Daniels said.

The sketch showed the FBI listening to calls by Mr Cohen, played by Ben Stiller, to a number of people including Mr Trump's new lawyer Rudy Giuliani, played by Kate McKinnon, and Ivanka Trump, played by Scarlett Johansson.

Mr Trump has abruptly changed his story on what he knew about a pre-election hush payment to Ms Daniels.

He previously denied having any knowledge of a $US130,000 payment made to the actress, done by Mr Cohen.

But last week the President said Ms Daniels was paid for "false and extortionist" claims.

Mr Trump's comments came after Mr Giuliani said Mr Trump reimbursed Mr Cohen for the hush money paid to Ms Daniels days before the 2016 presidential election.
