A royal insider has revealed 2022 has been a “tumultuous time” for the 95-year-old monarch as she’s had to deal with family scandals and battling Covid.

Two months into 2022 and the year has proved to be a rough start for Queen Elizabeth.

According to People, the royal is facing one of the toughest years of her life following her Covid-19 diagnosis and several family scandals including Prince Andrew’s civil sexual assault lawsuit settlement, Prince Charles’ charity being under investigation over cash for honours claims and the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“It’s a drip-feed of negativity for the monarchy,” a palace insider told the magazine.

“I’ve not known such a tumultuous time as this.

“It just feels to be one thing after another for the Queen. It’s going to take a toll.”

The 95-year-old monarch also has no trusted companion by her side since the death of her husband Prince Philip in April 2021 and one of her closest friends, Lady Diana Farnham who passed away in December that year.

“There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely,” said the palace insider.

The royal insider added that even mild Covid symptoms, it “must be hard” for the Queen right now.

“Whatever the symptoms, when you’re feeling below par, having to deal with the other problems is really hard.”

According to the same insider, the royal remains resolute because she “is stoical and mentally strong”.

People reports the British monarch is focused on celebrating her Platinum Jubilee in June, marking 70 years on the throne.

“Her main concern will be to get back to be in fighting form to start the Jubilee celebrations,” the insider said.

“She’s of the generation where you ‘suck it up’. It is duty first.”

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told the magazine the Queen is “very good at dealing with what life throws at her”.

“She understands that she needs to project that positive image more than ever and go about her business,” Bedell Smith added.
