Multiple lightly raced two-year-olds will line up on Wednesday in the opening event at Kensington for an intriguing battle over 1400m.

Megastar Heart holds early favouritism in the Golden Mile @ Darley Handicap, and he looks set to break through for his maiden win after a fantastic debut effort at Kembla Grange 18 days ago.

The colt’s effort was full of merit after chasing a fast tempo, then accelerating and going down fighting in a tight finish to run second.

Further, that race rated extremely well relative to the day, with the margin spread throughout confirming the quality of the race and his performance.

The Annabel Neasham-trained runner will roll forward from the inside draw, with the rise in trip suiting him. He’ll have first use of the rain-affected track.

Last-start winner Smashing Time looms as a key danger, and his effort to score at Kembla Grange was impressive.

The gelding raced in the inferior ground but built through his gears solidly and savaged the line to clock the entire meeting’s fastest final 200m split. Additionally, a subsequent winner came out of that race to validate the form.

He’ll need luck from the draw but expect him to come out of the pack and charge late.

Another of the more anticipated races is the James Squire Handicap (1300m), which features the return of exciting galloper Franz Josef and Need Some Luck.
