A Canadian man has pleaded not guilty after being charged over an alleged attempt to open an emergency door while intoxicated on an international flight.
Rahulreet Singh Mann was flying from Vancouver to Sydney last Tuesday when the incident unfolded about two hours into the journey.
According to Australian Federal Police (AFP), another passenger noticed the 33-year-old allegedly attempting to open the emergency exit door and pulled him away.
"Airline staff moved the man to a seat at the rear of the aircraft and supervised him for the remainder of the flight," the AFP said.
"It will be alleged the man was intoxicated at the time of the incident."
Officers were waiting at the arrivals gate when the flight landed.
Mr Mann has been charged with threatening the safety of an aircraft or persons on board, which carries a maximum penalty of $5,000 or two years in prison.
He entered a plea of not guilty in Downing Centre Local Court this morning and was excused from attending his next court date on July 8.
In a statement, Detective Inspector Dom Stephenson said the AFP had "no tolerance for antisocial, violent or dangerous behaviour".
"Passengers expect to feel safe and should not have to witness or endure intoxication or reckless behaviour," he said.
