Latrell Mitchell has rubbished claims he is not committed to the New South Wales State of Origin cause after missing out on selection for the series opener.
Mitchell formed a devastating centre combination with Tom Trbojevic as they scored four tries each in a dominant 2021 series win by the Blues, but has not played a game since then due to injuries.
In fact, despite being one of rugby league's most dominant outside backs on his day, Mitchell has only played seven of a possible 18 Origin contests since his debut in 2018, although he has also never played in a losing series.
This year, poor form for the last-placed South Sydney Rabbitohs kept Mitchell out of the side, with new coach Michael Maguire opting for Stephen Crichton and rugby union-bound debutant Joseph Sua'ali'i in the centres.
"Every player is in the mix but, as I keep going back to, it was about how they're playing and how they're performing," Maguire said.
There were reports earlier in the year that Mitchell may make himself unavailable for selection as he tried to revive South Sydney's season.
The NRL said that was not allowed, and Mitchell on Monday night dismissed News Corp reports that he was not "overly obsessed" with representing the Blues.
"I'm always committed to playing for NSW," he wrote on his Instagram stories alongside a screenshot of the story.
"FACTS: I specifically said to Madge [Maguire] via phone call if I'm playing well enough for me to be in your side then I'm [100 per cent] in.
"I bleed blue, I love the rivalry and the Origin arena.
"All I can do now is focus on Souths and winning more games.
"Good luck to the boys in blue. I'll be cheering NSW all the way."
The men's Origin series kicks off at Sydney's Olympic stadium on Wednesday, June 5, with the Blues trying to win their first series since 2021.
The second game will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on June 26, with the third and final game at Lang Park in Brisbane on July 17.
Games II and III of the women's series will be played the day after the men's series opener and the MCG clash.
The Sky Blues won the opening match in Brisbane 22-12 two weeks ago.
