Harley Reid's hopes of winning the AFL Rising star award hang in the balance after he unleashed a dangerous sling tackle during West Coast's 14-point loss to St Kilda in Perth.
The Eagles led by 11 points early in the last quarter of Saturday's match, but three final-term goals to Mason Wood helped lift St Kilda to the 12.10 (82) to 10.8 (68) victory.
Reid faces a nervous wait ahead of the match review officer's findings after slinging Saints youngster Darcy Wilson to the ground in the third quarter.
The force and slinging nature of the tackle resulted in the back of Wilson's head hitting the turf.
Wilson went off to be assessed for concussion but was later cleared to return.
If Reid is suspended, the prized top draft pick will be ineligible to win the Rising Star award.
With hot favourite Reid in danger of being suspended and Western Bulldogs forward Sam Darcy facing a two-match ban, the award could be thrown wide open.
West Coast coach Adam Simpson said he did not want to discuss the Reid tackle in too much detail for fear of getting into trouble with the AFL, but he was hopeful of a positive outcome.
"I thought there's nothing in it, that's what I'll say," Simpson said.
"I spoke to him and it was like, 'Mate, I didn't think there was much in it, so keep going, keep working through the tag'.
"That stuff will work itself out. Whatever happens there, we'll deal with it."
Reid looked set to be the difference in Saturday's match after a 17-disposal, seven-clearance first half, but he was restricted to just three possessions in the second half after being tightly tagged by Marcus Windhager.
St Kilda's win came at a cost, with star forward Max King subbed off at three-quarter-time with a knee injury.
Meanwhile, Geelong needed to come from behind to get past a plucky Richmond outfit before winning by five goals and snapping a four-match losing streak.
The Cats trailed by 29 points at one stage during the second quarter but they fought back to win 15.9 (99) to 10.9 (69) at Kardinia Park.
It was the Cats' first victory since round seven in late April and has them placed in provisional third place on the ladder ahead of the completion of round 12.
There was not much for coach Chris Scott to like about the Cats' first half, but the home side rebounded when it counted to gain the upper hand in the third term.
After the Tigers held a 16-point lead at the main break, the Cats kicked 6.2 to 3.1 in the third quarter to lead by three points at the final change.
The Tigers could only add a behind in the fourth quarter, with the Cats skipping away on the back of a 4.4 return.
Ollie Dempsey shone for the Cats with three goals and 27 disposals, while Tom Hawkins and Shannon Neale each kicked two majors.
Three-time Norm Smith medallist Dustin Martin backed up his solid performance against Essendon last week, kicking two goals and gathering 15 disposals.
Samson Ryan and Mykelti Lefau also managed doubles for the Tigers.
Earlier, Hawthorn continued its impressive mid-season resurgence, consigning Adelaide to more MCG misery with a convincing 27-point win.
The Hawks led by nearly 50 points in the third quarter on the way to a 16.11 (107) to 12.8 (80) triumph.
After losing their first five matches, Hawthorn have won five of the last seven.

Thanks for joining us!
A win for the Cats caps off Saturday's AFL action, although the Tigers earned praise for their effort in giving one of the premiership contenders a genuine scare.
That's two weeks in a row the Tigers have taken the fight to a more-fancied opponent and you can only feel a win is around the corner for Adem Yze's side.
Cats fans will be relieved with the result after enduring a horror May where they failed to post a win.
One victory doesn't make a season but getting the four points will give the Cats confidence that their campaign is getting back on track.

Match report: Geelong 15.9 (99) def Richmond 10.9 (69)
Geelong snapped its worst losing streak in 18 years with a 30-point win over Richmond, charging home after facing a potential upset at Kardinia Park.
After starting the match as favourites with bookmakers, the Cats trailed by 29 points late in the second quarter, but finally started to lift with two goals just before half-time to trail by 16 points at the main break.
Geelong slammed through six goals in the third quarter to lead by three points at the final change, finally steamrolling the plucky Tigers in the final term to win 15.9 (99) to 10.9 (69).
After taking the lead for the first time 20 minutes into the third quarter, the Cats dominated the second half, scoring 14.6 to Richmond's 3.2.
The result broke a four-match losing run — their worst in Chris Scott's 14 seasons as Geelong coach — after starting the season 7-0.
It also allowed the Cats to avoid losing three straight matches at their Kardinia Park fortress for the first time since 2006.
Although Scott would have been fuming with the Cats' first half, he would have been pleased how Geelong turned the match around.
It was not the Cats' stars such as Tom Stewart, Jeremy Cameron and Mitch Duncan who got them back in the contest.
Athletic forward Ollie Dempsey dominated with three goals and 27 disposals, while Tom Atkins got busy in the midfield.
Former Gold Coast midfielder Jack Bowes surged out of the centre with 10 clearances and was regularly dangerous in his best match for the Cats.
Geelong forward Ollie Henry is facing a stint on the sidelines after being subbed out in the second quarter with a hamstring injury.
Two weeks after being pummelled by 119 points by the Brisbane Lions in what coach Adem Yze hoped was rock bottom, the Tigers were brave at a venue they had not ventured to since 2017.
But they were made to pay for some sloppy errors that let the Cats back in the match late in the second quarter.
Dual Richmond premiership utility Marlion Pickett had a dirty night, giving the middle finger to Cats supporters after being subbed out in the last quarter.
Already injury-hit, Richmond will be sweating on scans to Mykelti Lefau after the forward landed awkwardly and was taken off in the final term clutching his knee.
The Tigers slumped to 1-11 with an eighth consecutive defeat.
It is their worst losing streak since 2010, which was triple premiership coach Damien Hardwick's first season in charge.

FT: Cats prevail against brave Tigers
CATS WIN!!!
The Cats halt a run of four straight losses to triumph 15.9 (99) to 10.9 (69) over a gallant Tigers line-up.
The win has the Cats placed third on the ladder ahead of the completion of round 12 and they will sing the club song for the first time since late April.
Neale extends Cats' lead
Another major to the Cats and their lead moves out to 28 points.
Shannon Neale collects his second, a deserved return for one of the Cats' best this evening.
Stengle adds to Cats' advantage
Tyson Stengle doesn't miss from right in front, as the Cats skip out to a 23-point lead.
Shannon Neale took a mark on the arc, before playing on and finding Stengle on his own close to goal.
Can the Tigers fight back?
The Cats have the upper hand in the fourth term, leading by 17 points at the midway point.
But a goal from the Tigers will make it interesting.
Is there another effort left in the Tigers?
Their fans certainly hope so and there's definitely enough time for the visitors to eat away at the Cats' lead.
Tigers activate their sub
Kaleb Smith makes his senior debut, coming on for the Tigers as their sub.
Smith replaces Marlion Pickett, whose night comes to an end close to the midway point of the final quarter.
Another one for the Cats!
Tom Hawkins answers the call when the Cats needed their veteran to stand tall.
Hawkins took receipt of a handball from Brad Close and he kicked his second goal to give the Cats' a 16-point buffer.
Close stands and delivers
Brad Close gives the Cats some breathing space with the opening goal of the fourth term.
After marking inside the attacking 50, Close goes around the corner from a tight angle to add his side's 12th goal and they establish a 10-point lead at the Cattery.
Final quarter makes a start - who will win?
We're back underway at Kardinia Park, and Cats fans will strongly believe their side can finish the job and snap their four-match losing streak.
But with a champion like Dustin Martin in their line-up, the Tigers have every chance of pulling off an upset.
Who will get the 'W'?
3QT: Cats take slender lead into final term
After trailing by 16 points at half-time, the Cats stepped up in a pulsating third quarter to take an 11.5 (71) to 10.8 (68) lead into the final change.
The Cats got on top by kicking 6.2 to 3.1 but the Tigers remain in the contest.
Cats reply through Jezza
It's taken until late in the third quarter, but Jeremy Cameron has his first goal of the contest.
Cameron marked on the lead after being found by Jack Bowes and he slotted the set-shot to send the Cats back into the lead.
Tigers take back the lead!
Just as quickly as the Cats took the lead, the Tigers claim it back!
Samson Ryan is accurate from the set-shot right in front of goal after taking a superb contested mark.
It's his second goal of the match.
Tigers lead by three points.
Cats in front!
On the back of Ollie Dempsey's goal, Shannon Neale adds another for the Cats, who storm into the lead in the third term.
The Cats already have five majors this term, with the Tigers only able to add two to their total.
Cats pounce on Tigers mistake
Ollie Dempsey finds himself in the right place at the right time to chalk up his third goal of the match.
Tom Hawkins had a set-shot from the right flank on the arc, but his kick went across the face of goal.
Amid a contest, the Tigers failed to mark and the ball spewed out to the goal square, where Dempsey was lurking to seize the opportunity.
Martin delivers for the Tigers
The Cats have had the momentum after half-time, but Dustin Martin is doing his best to keep the Tigers in front.
Dusty kicks his second of the night and the Tigers lead by 10 points as we approach the midway point of the third quarter.
Cats get another through Bowes
The Tigers lead by just three points, as Jack Bowes joins the Cats' goal kickers' list.
The Cats got the clearance from a stoppage on the arc and Bowes claimed possession and the Tigers defence to land his side's eighth goal of the match.
Guthrie goals for the Cats
Zach Guthrie kicks his first goal of the match following some outstanding build-up work from the Cats.
The home side found their targets with their passes and Guthrie did the rest with a brilliant effort on the sticks.
Not so fast, say the Tigers
Just as Cats fans were getting their hopes up after Max Holmes's goal, it's cancelled out by the Tigers' Seth Campbell.
One goal apiece early in the third quarter, with the Tigers back out to a 16-point lead.
There you go Cats fans!
The Cats start with a bang in the third quarter, with Max Holmes kicking a goal in the opening stages.
An unmarked Holmes was on the end of a Tom Hawkins's pass and he slotted the set-shot to reduce the Tigers' lead to 10 points.
