A Perth man faced court on Friday charged with the manslaughter of an 11-year-old boy who died in 2021.
Cassidy James Johnstone, 37, is alleged by police to have seriously injured his girlfriend’s child, Levi Mippy, in 2010 when he was baby, leaving him profoundly disabled, blind and fed through a tube.
Mippy survived more than a decade before his health deteriorated and he died in 2021, aged 11.
Now police have charged Johnstone with manslaughter over the boy’s death.
Mippy’s mother, Amber Minnet, was jailed for child neglect in 2012, having failed to take him to the hospital after the incident to receive care.
She has since passed away and the boy’s grandmother, Doris Mippy, devoted her life to caring for him until his death.
During a brief court appearance on Friday, the 37-year-old only spoke to confirm his name and that he understood the charge.
Johnstone made no application for bail and will reappear later this month.
