“SpinTel is committed to providing Australians with superior internet connectivity,” says SpinTel CEO, Liam Bal. “The Fibre Connect initiative aims to replace substandard FTTN and FTTC connections with advanced FTTP connections.
“NBN Co has committed to enabling over 10 million homes and businesses, covering 90 per cent of the country, to upgrade to a superior fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connection by the end of 2025.
“It is designed to provide Australians with higher internet speeds and cater to the increasing number of devices that require internet connection in the home, supporting the upward trend of Australians working from home.”
By participating in this program, SpinTel ensures that more Australian households can benefit from faster, better-quality broadband.
Advantages of FTTP
FTTP technology represents a significant leap forward from its predecessors.
“FTTP provides the highest possible internet speeds and reliability with direct fibre optic cables to homes,” says Bal.
Unlike FTTN, which uses existing copper lines to deliver the internet from a central node, FTTP offers unmatched speed and stability.
“This upgrade means faster internet, smoother browsing, quality streaming, and rapid downloads,” says Bal.
“FTTC extends fibre optic cables to a distribution point near a user’s curb but still relies on copper lines to connect to the premises. FTTP is a switch from outdated copper to cutting-edge fibre optic cables directly to your home.”
Ensuring a smooth transition
SpinTel is dedicated to making the transition to FTTP as seamless as possible for its customers.
“Once a customer selects their NBN FTTP plan, SpinTel co-ordinates directly with NBN to schedule installation appointments,” Bal says. “We keep customers updated throughout the process to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.”
The installation process varies slightly depending on the existing technology. For FTTN customers, an NBN-certified technician will fit the NBN equipment both inside and outside the property, typically taking three to four hours.
“For FTTC customers, one installation visit is required where a certified NBN technician will fit the NBN devices,” Bal says.
“Someone 18 years or older must be available during the installation to allow the technician entry to both the interior and exterior of the premises.”
One of the standout features of SpinTel’s offering is its competitive pricing.
“SpinTel offers the lowest rates for NBN 250 plans at $79 per month for the first six months,” says Bal.
“Our NBN plans then rise to $89.95 per month, still lower than many NBN 100 plans on the market.” This makes high-speed internet more accessible to a broader range of customers.
In addition to competitive pricing, SpinTel’s plans offer significant flexibility. “We provide no lock-in contract plans, delivering more speed and data for less cost,” Bal says.
This flexibility allows customers to choose plans that best fit their needs without being tied down by long-term commitments.
Contributing to nation’s digital infrastructure
By participating in the NBN Co initiative, SpinTel is not only enhancing individual internet experiences but also contributing to the broader development of Australia’s digital infrastructure.
“By enabling faster and more reliable FTTP connections, SpinTel supports the broader economy,” says Bal. “FTTP fosters innovation, efficiency, and entrepreneurship within Australian households and businesses.”
The rollout of FTTP connections is expected to have far-reaching benefits.
“This initiative not only enhances internet speeds but also contributes to the country’s overall digital development,” Bal says.
As more Australians gain access to high-speed internet, the potential for economic growth, improved education outcomes, and enhanced quality of life increases significantly.
A brighter digital future
The transformation brought about by free FTTP upgrades represents a significant milestone in Australia’s digital journey.
With faster speeds, increased reliability, and more plan options, Australians are poised for a digital revolution.
“Our participation in the Fibre Connect initiative helps ensure that Australia’s digital infrastructure can meet future demands,” says Bal.
“We want to ensure that more Australian households and businesses can benefit from faster, better quality broadband, and FTTP is the best way to go.”
SpinTel customer Page Chandler says she is looking forward to her family’s FTTP upgrade, which she says will “significantly enhance my daily internet usage by providing faster, more reliable internet connectivity”.
“This will improve our experience with TV streaming, Zoom and my kids’ online gaming,” says Chandler.
“I expect fewer interruptions and a smoother online experience overall.”
And she says the FTTP upgrade will likely spur local development by attracting businesses that rely on high-speed internet.
“It can enable better access to online education and remote work opportunities, thus improving our quality of life.”
