Melksham is back
Jake Melskham is making his long-awaited return from a knee injury today and he has just kicked his first goal and been swarmed by his teammates.
He looks a handy piece for the Demons as they look to develop their forward line in the run to the finals.
Gawn has got in on the goals too with a chip shot from close range.
Dees 91, Eagles 36 with eight mins to go in Q3.
Pickett flies, then misses
Pickett took a nice little hanger in the forward pocket.
I don’t think it is a mark of the year candidate but it was a quality mark.
Sadly for Dees supporters, he missed his snap at goal when it fell short and was punched over.
Fellow high-flyer Liam Ryan from the Eagles gave him a playful bump and smile for not finishing the job.
Eagles kick two goals to start second half
Oscar Allen and Jake Waterman have both kicked goals early in the third term and it’s good to see considering how much the Eagles struggled in the first half.
They have the players to be much closer to the Demons than they are so far.
Dees 71, Eagles 35 with 16 mins to go in Q3.
Half time stats
Gawn, Reid get acquinted
Dees skipper Max Gawn and Eagles superstar Harley Reid ended up in a pretty fierce melee after the siren with the big Demon taking Reid to ground and wrestling with him before they were eventually broken up.
It should only be a fine or less but was surprising to see Gawn lose his cool.
HT: Melbourne 10.5 (71) to West Coast 3.2 (22)
Jacob van Rooyen has booted his fourth goal just before the siren for half time.
This is his best game as an AFL player and he could be in for a bag of goals today should he continue to find room to lead in the second half.
The Eagles need to do better than this. It’s just not good enough, especially with the Dees missing players like Christian Petracca.
van Rooyen kicks his third
The Eagles are not helping themselves as van Rooyen took a mark on the 50m arc and an Eagles player encroached, leading to a 50m penalty and an easy goal for the big Demons forward.
He has kicked three majors.
Daniel Turner has marked on the lead and kicked a goal as well - the Demons are barely out of second gear.
Dees 64, Eagles 22 with three mins to go in Q3.
Allen keeps Eagles going
Allen has kicked a second goal, this time from deep in the right forward pocket.
He did well to snap it around the corner and it sailed into goal.
Dees 52, Eagles 22 with five mins to go in Q2.
The ‘Roo’ chants are ringing out
That’s “Roo” for van Rooyen who has run onto the bouncing ball in the goal square and booted it home.
This could be getting early for the Eagles who just can’t stem the flow of footy into Melbourne’s forward line.
