Greens leader Adam Bandt says it is “delirious” to suggest his party voted against forcing the CFMEU into administration following allegations the minor party is seeking donations.

Yesterday when Labor and the Coalition struck a deal to force the disgraced union into administration, the Greens slammed the move as a threat to fundamental rights of freedom.

Speaking on ABC Radio National, Bandt said forced administration was not the right solution.

“We wanted safeguards in the legislation to ensure that problems were tackled, but in a way where procedural fairness was ensured, and instead, the government went and worked with the Coalition,” he said.

Labor and the Coalition have argued the reason the Greens voted against the bill was the minor party was seeking donations from the union, a claim Bandt dismissed.

“That is just delirious, and it’s utterly without foundation and I would say to Labor and Liberals: look in the mirror,” Bandt said.

“While these allegations were surfacing in the public, Labor over the last few years [has] taken $6 million from the CFMEU, according to reports, the Liberals and Nationals took $175,000 in the last couple of years and the Greens zero, while Labor took millions.”
