As part of a summer of big updates for the 2016 game, No Man's Sky has launched an update called Aquarius that introduces fishing to the game.

But because this is No Man's Sky, an immersive space sim built on obsessive detail, this is no basic fishing game. In a video trailer for Aquarius, Hello Games shows off a wide variety of options for fishing in the game that allow players to "Relax alone or with friends" to find the perfect fishing spot, whether that's on an "exo-skiff" watercraft or in scuba gear with underwater jetpacks.

Players can install a fishing rig into their multitool and cast a line into any body of water throughout the game.

Other options in the update include group fishing expeditions, crafting different types of bait, using a variety of electronic fishing rods and other gear, making new recipes including pickled fish and marine steak, and, of course, a fishing log.

Beyond tht, additions include automated fish traps, messages in bottles, trophies, records and even a synthetic polymer toy companion to accompany you on your boat.

The developer has said that adding fishing to the game was inspired by a piece of fan art posted on Reddit.

The Aquarius fishing update is meant to highlight one of the biggest improvements Hello Games made with its Worlds Part 1 update in July: how the game displays water. One fan on Steam speculated that the Aquarius update may be a way for Hello Games to test out mechanics for a separate project it's working on, Light No Fire.

Hello Games didn't immediately respond to a request for comment about Light No Fire.

No Man's Sky is available for PlayStation 4 and 5; Xbox One, Series S and X; Nintendo Switch; and PC. It's also included in Xbox Game Pass.
