A Blue Mountains mother has been charged with the murder of her two children.
Trish Smith was arrested on Tuesday after the bodies of her sons, Ben and Russell Smith, aged nine and 11, were found by their father inside their Faulconbridge home just before 1pm. Smith, 42, was also at the home suffering from self-inflicted injuries.
She remained under police guard at Westmead Hospital as detectives awaited medical clearance for her to be interviewed.
On Friday, she was released from hospital and taken to Parramatta Police Station, where she was charged with two counts of murder (DV).
She was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
The boys’ father, Nick Smith, on Thursday spoke of his “unimaginable pain and distress” in a statement.
“Russell and Ben were happy, funny, outgoing boys, and were very much loved by their family and friends. They loved sports, soccer, the Penrith Panthers, fishing, books, music, spending time with their friends and Max their pup,” he said.
“We cannot understand how our boys have been taken this way, and we appreciate the kindness and compassion shown by the community.”
