Mitch Starc's love affair with the pink ball has continued as India was bowled out for 180 on day one of the day-night Test at Adelaide Oval.
Starc recorded career-best figures of 6-48, including dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal with the very first ball of the Test, attended by 50,186 supporters.
After bowling India out in the first two sessions, Australia battled to 1-86 at the close, negotiating a tough period under lights where, at times, the pink ball seemed to be moving too much for India's seamers.
Those lights failed twice in the final session, leading to a momentary delay that saw play finish at 10:03 local time, with Australia trailing by 94 runs.
Through it all though Marnus Labuschagne, under immense pressure to perform after a woeful outing in Perth and a lean run in the past 18 months, remained focused.
He still took 19 balls to get off the mark but appeared to recapture his old swagger after a fiery battle with Harshit Rana, ending the day on 20, with opener Nathan McSweeney alongside him, unbeaten on 38.
Jasprit Bumrah had Usman Khawaja out for 13, but was too short with his line as Australia's batters fought to preserve their wickets in a feisty evening of cricket.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that looked a poor one after Starc swung the ball into Jaiswal's pads for a first-ball duck.
Scott Boland, in for the injured Josh Hazlewood, should have had a wicket with his first ball of the match, but he overstepped and KL Rahul was given a life.
He ended up with 37 before being caught by McSweeney, sparking a collapse where India lost 4-18.
Nitish Kumar Reddy provided a late salvo for India, scoring 42 with some power hitting with the lower order.
Look back on how all the action unfolded in our live blog.

LoadingSTUMPS - Australia 1-86 (Labuschagne 20, McSweeney 38)
Australia ends day one of the second Test well on top in Adelaide!
Mitchell Starc was excellent with the ball, picking up six wickets to limit India to just 180 after Australia lost the toss.
The Aussies began their innings in the testing conditions under lights, but have to be absolutely thrilled with their current position, just one wicket down and trailing by 94 runs.
Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne have knuckled down and looked really, really solid.
India's pacemen, who were excellent in Perth, couldn't quite find their radar.
Perhaps they got a little bit carried away under lights. But they'll need to be a lot better tomorrow or else they'll be facing a big first innings deficit.
Here's Stuart Clark's take on the final session of play on ABC Radio.
"It's been a great effort and it really sets Australia up now. It puts them right in the box seat, getting to bat under normal conditions with a ball that's 33 overs old. So for Australia, if you wrote down a day — bowl India out, be one down, 80 on the board, only down by 94 — it'd be tick, tick, tick, tick. It feels like the game is still really close and really tense."
