Australia expects India's top order to offer more resistance when the two teams return to Brisbane's Allan Border Field for the second match of their ODI series.

The hosts established a 1-0 series lead with a comfortable five-wicket victory in the first match on Thursday.

Fast bowler Megan Schutt did much of the damage with the ball, taking 5-19 as the tourists were dismissed for 100.

Australia chased down the victory target inside 17 overs.

India lost its last six wickets for 11 runs, but its top order also battled to show any authority in a meek start to the three-match series that continues on Sunday in Brisbane.

"A bit more grit, I reckon," Schutt offered when asked what she was expecting from India in the second ODI.

"They're going to come out a bit better after their first game in these conditions.

"We would have bowled first anyway … to bat first was a pretty courageous decision.

"So they'll come up with some plans. We'll have to adjust ours for even longer and that's all part of 50-over cricket."

Schutt hinted she had been working on her repertoire after adding another milestone to her list with her first ODI five-wicket haul.

"I didn't feel that great out there … I thought Kimmy G [Kim Garth] was by far the better bowler and had the ball on a string," she said.

"That allowed me to try some things and I got the reward with some wickets."

Australia is without injured captain Alyssa Healy (knee), who is with the squad and hopeful of featuring in its tour of New Zealand later this month.

The ODI series against India wraps up in Perth on Wednesday.
