Not half a year after getting the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, studio FromSoftware has revealed the next chapter in its vaunted game. The new trailer debuted Thursday at The Game Awards in Los Angeles. Elden Ring Nightreign -- and the game is coming out in 2025.
The trailer showed off armored humans fighting monsters, typical fare for an Elden Ring adventure. But the game isn't a new DLC -- instead, it's a co-op action survival game, as a FromSoftware press release reads. While it carries over weapons and abilities from the core Elden Ring, "the game design has been reformed to provide players with a completely new gameplay experience. Players will choose from a cast of unique characters to face off against a new threat," according to the release.
Nightreign will have a mix of RPG elements like dungeon exploring, character leveling and intense combat against powerful enemies, the release reads -- which sounds a lot like the base Elden Ring. The difference? Players have to work together to survive for three days, at the end of which comes the so-called "onset of Night" when the Nightlords come to challenge the players.
From the release, it seems like the world may stay the same, but key locations, enemies and weapons may change. Players can pick from eight unique characters split across different classes with unique abilities.
