Police are appealing to the public to help locate a woman after she was allegedly assaulted and abducted near a shopping centre in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Officers said 35-year-old Elizabeth Bell was last seen outside a shopping centre in Bondi Junction yesterday afternoon.

It is believed she is in the company of a 42-year-old man, who was allegedly seen assaulting Ms Bell before forcing her into a van on Spring Street.

Police said they were looking for a white van with a New South Wales registration which left the scene, and hold "significant concerns" for the missing woman.

Images of the woman have been posted on the NSW police website.

Officers are urging anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the van or Ms Bell to contact them.
