The phone comes in two colours: Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Blue

YOU know smartphone technology is reaching a pinnacle when the display of your device is such a high quality product that it’s better than most TVs.

This is certainly the case for Sony’s latest smartphone — the XZ Premium.

Unveiled this week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the 5.5-inch smartphone will be the first in the world to have a 4K HDR display.

In order to make sure users are getting the most of the device, Sony has partnered with Amazon Prime to offer a selection of 4K HDR content to Xperia XZ Premium customers.

While the Premium’s predecessors already had the ability to capture 4K footage, the new display will now allow customers to view this content in its purest form — previously the footage would have to be exported and played on a 4K device.

In addition the 4K display, Sony has introduced another world first by making the XZ Premium able to capture super slow motion video.

While slow motion capture on phones is nothing new, other devices can only capture 240fps, where the Premium is able to capture an extremely impressive 960fps.

By adding three times as many frames per second, the smartphone is able to deliver a smoother and more detailed slow motion capture.

To ensure the result is more user-friendly, Sony has also added the ability to turn the slow-mo capture on and off while recording video.

This means users are able to ensure they only have slow motion capture for the part of the video they want — think a skateboarder performing a trick.

In terms of photography, the Premium makes it easier to photograph moving shots with a feature called “Predictive Capture”.

Once the device detects motion, it captures up to four photos a second before the shutter button is clicked, which means you will never be too slow to capture that moment.

Not much will change on the design of the device, other than the fact it is slightly slimmer than its predecessor — measuring only 7.9mm thick.

The Premium will keep the headphone jack, have USB-C connectivity, 64GB storage and IP65/68 water resistance.

Sony has also guaranteed all-day use from the Premium’s 3230mAh battery, which also had Quick Charge 3.0 capabilities.
