A 41-year-old man has pleaded guilty in the ACT Supreme Court to murdering a man at the Stuart Flats in Canberra's south last year.

Scott Jamie Cole was arrested at the scene and accused of stabbing Jason Hollingshed, 46, to death after an argument.

Cole originally chose to represent himself in court and had pleaded not guilty to the crime.

However on Thursday Cole re-appeared in court, this time with legal representation, and when asked again for his plea said: "Yes, I am guilty."

Some facts in the case alleged by the prosecution remain in dispute.

Cole's change of plea means a lengthy criminal trial will now be abandoned. He is expected to be sentenced for the murder in June.

The case has experienced a number of delays, thanks in part to Cole's initial refusal of legal advice and the time taken by investigators to process a large amount of forensic evidence.
