Brown makes it two in a row
DRIVERS in the Improved Production Car category left nothing on the table in their second race at the Clipsal 500 on Friday.
Six cars from the 28-car starting grid failed to finish as competitors gave it their all to pass the chequered flag in the highest position possible.
SA driver Andy Sarandis got the early jump in his Mitsubishi Evo from the second row of the grid to take the lead into the chicane but he was soon rounded up by Jordan Cox’s Honda Civic and fellow South Aussie Chris Brown’s Toyota Sprinter.
Michael Naguib’s race in his Datsun 1600 was the first to come to an early end on lap 2 when he lost control on the curb at Turn 9 and tussled with Nathan Robinson’s BMW M3 and Dan Ridley’s VK Commodore.
Cox and Brown kept in close contact throughout the eight-lap race, with the former giving the latter a nudge in the Staircase on the final lap, but Brown came home with the win to back up his first place in Thursday’s Race 1.
Race 3 will be held at 8am on Saturday.

Local racer Dontas leaps ahead
SOUTH Australia’s Craig Dontas has managed to hold on to victory in the first race of the Stadium Super Truck support category.
He quickly moved to the front of the 12-car field from the second row and stayed there for most of the seven-lap race, while Toby Price’s fibreglass fell off the front of his truck and Sheldon Creed moved his way through the ranks from the back of the grid.
He fell to the back during the mandatory yellow flag period which condenses the field to give fans exciting racing at the end of the race.
That mission was accomplished, with Paul Morris and Matt Brabham taking it up to Dontas, both overtaking him.
But a crash from US driver Gavin Harlien stopped the race and the win was credited to Dontas.
Race 2 will take place at 1.30pm Saturday.

Red flags give Super2 pole to the veteran
AN early end to the Dunlop Super2 Series qualifying session has led to Paul Dumbrell gaining pole position for the first race this afternoon.
The session was stopped twice – the first time under a red flag after Brodie Kostecki lost control of his Ford Falcon at Turn 11, then for the second time when Nathan Morcom lost control of his Holden Commodore at turn 4 with about three minutes left on the clock.
Three drivers – Gary Jacobson, SA’s Todd Hazelwood and Shae Davies – were on flying laps when the session was halted and any of the three were on track to take top spot from Dumbrell.
They will start the first race from fourth, fifth and sixth respectively at 4.25pm. Jack Le Brocq’s Nissan and Kurt Kostecki’s Holden will start from p2 and p3.
