The Australian dollar is higher against its US counterpart following a slip in the greenback on profit taking.

At 0636 AEDT on Monday, the Australian dollar was worth 75.94 US cents, up from 75.54 US cents on Friday.

The US dollar index fell 0.8 per cent against a basket of six major currencies as investors took profits.

The Aussie dollar is also higher against the yen but down against the euro.
