A key witness at the murder trial of Sydney developer Ron Medich has denied telling a former police officer he lied at a previous court hearing.
Lucky Gattellari has been recalled to give evidence at the trial of Ron Medich over the murder of Medich's former business associate Michael McGurk in 2009.
Gattellari, who has admitted organising the murder, was asked about a visit by former police officers Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara to Cooma jail in 2014.
Medich's barrister Winston Terracini SC said Gattellari "told [McNamara] that you'd lied at the Medich committal".
"That's nonsense," Gattellari said.
Gattellari has been charged with attempting to extort money from Medich.
A fellow prisoner, drug importer Shayne Hatfield, is accused of helping Gattellari with this attempt.
While questioning Hatfield, Prosecutor Gina O'Rourke SC today read out the contents of a message from Gattellari that was to be delivered to Medich with the help of Rogerson and McNamara.
"I asked you for help with legal expenses and bail money," the message read.
"You turned your back on me and left me for dead.
"I could have protected you at all cost but you tried to f**k me.
"Neither of us would have been in the shit if you have not been such a prick and tried to shift the blame on me."
"Well my so-called friend, this is the way it is now."
Hatfield denied that Gattellari had ever told him that he had lied, either at the committal hearing or at the New South Wales Crime Commission.
