India has rocketed back into contention for the Test series against Australia, but the Bangalore clash has been pock-marked by another spat between captains Virat Kohli and Steve Smith.
The hosts skittled Australia for 112 to level the Test series at 1-1, but fireworks flew between Kohli and Smith after the Australian skipper made a cheeky glance to the changing rooms while he pondered a review.
Trapped plumb in front of his stumps by Umesh Yadav and under pressure following Shaun Marsh's failure to review an earlier erroneous LBW decision, Smith thought and thought and thought over whether to review the umpire's call.
While consulting with partner Peter Handscomb, Smith looked up to the Australian changing rooms on the suggestion of his batting partner in the hopes of getting a clue as whether to proceed or not, only for the umpire to spot the indiscretion.
Umpire Nigel Llong ordered Smith to walk, with the game's rules legislating against outside help over reviews, prompting a furious reaction from Kohli.
The visibly riled Kohli stormed across the pitch, angrily approaching Smith before getting pulled aside by officials.
With players from both sides likely to be fined over the heated exchanges, it all helped wrap up what has been an incredibly tempestuous Test match.
The day before, Kohli flirted with possible dissent after the third umpire ruled there was no "conclusive evidence" that a Josh Hazlewood delivery had clipped his bat before pad when he was given out LBW.
He had initially refused to walk before trudging off the ground, pointing to the toe of his bat and shaking his head.
Australian tweaker Steve O'Keefe also got in strife with officials when he appeared to level a spray at Cheteshwar Pujara at the non-striker's end, after celebrating Smith's other-worldly catch to dismiss KL Rahul.
