HOUSEHUNTERS in Burwood weren’t phased by a hefty drop in auction numbers due to the long weekend, with the suburb recording two seven-figure sales at auction.
One property topped $1.9 million thanks to its prime potential, and another enticed buyers with its charm.
Realestate.com.au ranks the suburb, 14km east of the CBD, as being in “average demand” from buyers.
But these two properties had plenty of attention as they went under the hammer.

SOLD $1.555m
SPURTS of spirited bidding followed a slow start to the auction of this extended 1930s home.
Woodards Blackburn auctioneer Russell Wheeler started with a vendor bid of $1.4 million, and just two genuine bids of $5000 each had been placed 20 minutes in.
Four bidders had participated by the time the three-bedroom California bungalow hit the market at $1.525 million, selling $30,000 later.
The house was set on 645sq m, close to Camberwell schools.
SOLD $1,960,500
SIX bidders — all developers — vied for this original four-bedroom home on 1015sq m.
A $1.5 million bid kicked off the rollercoaster auction, which started slowly before big bids of up to $100,000 came in, and then slowed again when the property hit the market around the $1.9 million mark.
A local developer came out on top.
“It shows the demand for land is definitely there,” said Buxton Camberwell director Steve Hatzi.
“This was a big parcel of land too.”
