Floyd Mayweather Jr has vowed to come out of retirement for a blockbuster fight against UFC champ Conor McGregor as the pair's war of words continues.

The boxing great and MMA star have long been at each other over the prospect, but the latest comments from Mayweather suggest real desire is there to make this promoter's dream a reality.

"For Conor McGregor, I'm coming out of retirement, just to fight Conor McGregor," Mayweather said.

"I don't want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC. Sign the paper with the UFC so you can fight me in June.

"I'm tired of all this crying about money and talking about you want to fight. If you want to fight, sign the paperwork, let's do it."

There are a number of hurdles in the way of any potential fight, not least the money Mayweather and McGregor would demand and the format the bout would take.

But that is not stopping the pair's slanging match. Earlier this year, McGregor seemed confident the fight would take place.

"This is happening," McGregor told Rolling Stone in January.

"Me and Floyd have got to get together and talk to figure it out, the same way him and Manny [Pacquiao] figured it out.

"Once we come to a set number that I'm happy with and he's happy with, then we go to the customers, then we go to the promoters, the buyers, then we get it done."
