THEY’RE our queens of the turf — the established champ, the young gun and the rising star — and they’re all on the same mission.
Clare Lindop, Jamie Kah and Emily Finnegan, who fill three of the top four positions on the Adelaide jockeys premiership, will chase a piece of South Australian racing history when they ride in Monday’s UBET Adelaide Cup at Morphettville.
Lindop rides Mail It In for co-trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Kah is on last year’s runner-up Tunes for Murray Bridge horseman Grant Young, while Finnegan will team up with outsider Chestnut Charlie for Frenchman Phillipe Huserot.
Lindop will be chasing her second Cup success, 11 years after becoming the first woman to win the 3200m feature on Exalted Time for local trainer Jim Smith.
“I’m really excited. I love the thrill of these distance races,” Lindop said.
“This is something I always look forward to.”
Irish apprentice Finnegan is equally rapt to be competing in South Australia’s best-known horse race.
“There are only seven Adelaide riders (in the Cup) ... so to be riding in the race is brilliant,” she said.
“I’m really looking forward to it.”
