LOOKING to add a little bit of greenery to your home? Or perhaps encapsulate the great outdoors inside?

We found some homes on the market in Adelaide with unique and quirky features designed to bring the outdoors in. They could present budding green thumbs with their dream interior garden or pool, plus they all add feelings of light and space to boot.

DULWICH

THIS one at 8 Albert St in Dulwich has an atrium in the kitchen complete with hanging pot plants and a vine canopy.

LJ Hooker Kensington/Unley sales consultant Andrew Welch says the property also includes a custom-designed indoor swimming pool, which adjoins the living room.

He says such features aren’t often seen and have attracted a lot of interest from buyers.

“Both the atrium and the indoor pool are absolutely an interesting selling point, especially the pool as it is very unique,” Mr Welch says.

“You can be in the kitchen and family room and keep an eye on your children when you swim.”

Owners Alison and Brenton Swart bought the home in 2001 and added the an atrium to fill the home with natural light and connect it with the outdoors.

“It’s like having a garden in the home,” Mrs Swart says.

“When we bought it was quite rundown, and it was just the original six rooms of the house and a fibro granny flat out the back.

“We put in the inground undercover pool, we extended the back of the house to incorporate a living and kitchen area, put on a double garage, landscaped and paved the property and put in a new fence — it’s been quite a transformation.”

2 Jill Court in Encounter Bay also has a tranquil semi-enclosed swimming pool within a double storey void and a garden atrium underneath an entertainment balcony.

Klemich Real Estate sales agent Richard Hayward says you can enjoy views of the tropical pool and deck from the balcony of the master bedroom on the upper floor.

Mr Hayward says the home, designed by architect Max Pritchard, epitomises the indoor to outdoor living trend, which popular with homebuyers.

“I think [the pool and atrium] are a point of difference and it allows flexibility throughout the year so you can use the pool all year round,” he said.

“We are seeing more and more houses with outdoor kitchens and living zones — they are becoming increasingly prominent, enough that it is almost a necessity to those building or renovating.

“We are seeing a lot more low-maintenance living and bringing the feel of space from outside to the inside through clever design so that the whole property is used.”
