The UE Wonderboom is the latest in Logitech's Ultimate Ears range of Bluetooth speakers. The Ultimate Ears family also includes the regular-sized UE Boom and the Megaboom. They're ridiculous names, but always fantastic-sounding kit.

The Wonderboom replaces the UE Roll as the entry-level speaker in the line-up. For $130 you miss out on some of the advanced features of its siblings, like the party mode feature that allows infinite UE Boom speakers to connect together. Still, the Wonderboom lives up to the family tradition of having fantastic sound in a compact, nearly indestructible shell.

The unit sounds incredible for its size. It's about as big as a coffee mug, and while nowhere near as compact as the UE Roll it replaces, the fat little cylindrical design creates a much fuller sound. It's still small enough to carry around in a bag, and turned just halfway up it's loud enough to fill a room with clear, distortion free music.

The Wonderboom (like the rest of the UE line up) is waterproof, making it a fantastic poolside speaker. But it goes one better: this little speaker is buoyant, so you can throw it in the pool and continue to hear your tunes. And now that most phones are waterproof, it's so much easier to safely control your music around water.

My pool party days are behind me, but I'm still using the Wonderboom as my main speaker around the house, using it in the shower or balanced above the sink while doing the dishes. Battery life has been fantastic. It's rated at10 hours playback, but I'm getting weeks of casual listening between charges.

The squat, colourful design won't appeal to everyone, but this a fantastic go-anywhere speaker for the asking price.
