Real Madrid look to become the first team in the Champions League era to win the trophy in back-to-back years, Juventus stand in their way.
Real Madrid claim Champions League final
Real Madrid have claimed the Champions League final with a 4-1 thumping of Juventus.
Goodnight! (Well, good morning)
As the final stages get applied to the podium and we once again get ready to see Real lift the trophy, that's it from me. Thanks for following along tonight, we'll be back during the week with all the AFL, NRL and Socceroos action.
"I'm very proud of this team, and this organisation. We had a date with destiny and a unique opportunity to enter the record books, and we managed it." Sergio Ramos speaks as the stage is being set up for him to once again lift the trophy.
"We had a great finish to the season, I'm very happy to win tonight." - Ronaldo speaking after the match. Not exactly insightful, but it's certainly accurate. He also told his critics to eat their words, because "we're the best".
Ronaldo's goals tonight took him to 600 total for club and country. What an absolute freak.
An amazing achievement for Madrid - to not only hold off Barcelona in La Liga but to also win the Champions League is no mean feat, let alone including the fact that they won it last year, too. Ronaldo became the first man to score in three finals and his caps a perfect year for him, after winning the Euros (albeit with him going off injured) with Portugal last summer.
Back to topJuventus 1, Real Madrid 4
Astonishing second half from Real Madrid - we headed into the sheds all level after Ronaldo's opener and Mandzukic's stunning equaliser, but there was only one team in it in the second half.
Casemiro's deflected effort snuck just inside the post, before Ronaldo and then finally Asensio added two more - Zinedine Zidane becomes the first manager to lift the Champions League trophy in consecutive years, and Real Madrid claim the title for the TWELFTH time, the most of any team, by far.
Asensio puts the icing on the cake!!
4-1 and that's that! Ronaldo lines up a free kick from 30 yards, it smacks into the wall and away - Marcelo tracks it down, keeps it just inside the byline and then steers it back for the substitute to stroke home from just in front of the penalty spot. Rampant second half from Zidane's men.
Sub for Real Madrid: Morata on, Kroos off
The German will leave to a thunderous ovation with about 90 seconds left in regular time. The man who scored in the final for Juventus (while on loan from Real) two seasons ago will get to soak up the remaining few moments.
87 minutes gone, Real Madrid lead 3-1
Dani Alves tries to get on the end of a through ball, but Navas beats him to it. Juve are just about out of time for a miraculous comeback.
Back to topCuadrado is off!
Well the Colombian winger, who only came on some 20 odd minutes ago, is going off again and Juventus are down to ten men. The ball goes out of play after a great Ramos tackle, but then a ludicrous yellow is given to Cuadrado who may have nudged the defender out of the way when going to get the ball - Ramos, predictably, went down as though he'd been shot. Ridiculous decision.
Sub for Real Madrid: Marco Asensio on, Isco off
Good shift from Isco and he will make way for the final eight minutes.
Alex Sandro heads just wide!
That could have been the lifeline for Juve. They win a free kick down the right wing, the delivery from Alves is perfect and he finds his fellow fullback in the middle of the area but the glancing nod towards goal is just wide of the far post. Just. 82 minutes gone, Real Madrid lead 3-1
Bonucci denies Bale!
Superb effort to slide in at the last second and beat the sub to that low cross from Ronaldo. 80 minutes gone, Real Madrid lead 3-1
Back to topSub for Juventus: Lemina on, Dybala off
The young Gabon international is on for the disappointingly ineffectual Argentine - and his first involvement is to foul Carvajal.
Sub for Real Madrid: Bale off, Benzema on
The Welshman comes on for the final 13 minutes in his home country. Lovely stuff.
Now Marcelo misses high!
They're lining up to score, really. He hits it first time and it was always rising and clears the bar with ease. Juventus look totally out of this. What happened at half time?! 75 minutes gone, Real Madrid lead 3-1
Benzema blazes over!
Lovely build up play as Benzema fakes a shot, plays in Marcelo down the left and then gets a return ball via a low cross. I think that may have taken a touch on the way through and that influences his shot which is miles over. 73 minutes gone, Real Madrid lead 3-1
