There was no premiership on the line but the Queanbeyan Kangaroos secured some grand final redemption after thrashing the West Belconnen Warriors on Sunday.
The Kangaroos arrived at Belconnen with a point to prove after the heartbreak of last year's two-point grand final loss, and the visitors put on a clinic scoring 11 tries in the 64-18 victory.
Playing coach Aaron Gorrell got his name on the scorecard but it was superstar five-eighth Brent Crisp who once against dominated, racking up 28 points thanks to 10 conversions and two tries.
"It's always good to put 60 points on a team. When our forwards play well they lay the the platform for our two halves who are playing really good footy and then they've got some handy finishers outside them," Gorrell said.
"Crispy is just a class above everyone in this competition at the moment, he's just so big and strong and taking full advantage of the platform the forwards are laying."
The Kangaroos coach said despite the emphatic victory, the only thing that will redeem the grand final loss is a premiership - and his men aren't there yet.
"We've tried to move on from that [grand final], there's not much you can do about it, we can only control the things we control and we still need to give things a retweak," Gorrell said.
"We're winning but we're still not where we need to be to if we want to be in the hunt in September because at the moment we're not playing for 80 minutes.
"We're really good for 20 minutes patches, but to win grand finals you need to play for 80 minutes and be at your best for every minute.
"I'm not trying to be a nark - we're happy with where we're at - but we can't rest on that because how we're playing now isn't going to win us games in September."
The Kangaroos have only dropped one game this season and sit second on the Canberra Raiders Cup ladder which Gorrell put down to the club's depth.
"Everyone has put their hand up and performed which is why I think we're going so well, whoever we call in is doing the job," Gorrell said.
"We've had blokes out with the rep side but the guys who come in hold their own or go better than that, so we're in a good position with depth and that's what we need with injuries throughout the year."
