Too busy to plug your phone in? Well, now there's a solution for that ...

Charging up your phone every other day week in, week out is a drag. And having cables cluttering up the kitchen bench or any working surface can be a nuisance.

Enter the Laser wireless charging alarm clock ($98) that can juice up your mobile, cable-free.

Basically, it's a digital alarm clock with a built-in Qi wireless pad on top. Qi is the industry-standard for inductive charging.

Fully powering up the phone is a slow process, but it is designed to work overnight.

Testing it with a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, with its case on, the charge went from 10 per cent to 75 per cent in three hours. If you want a fast charge, then continue using your cables, but a wireless pad looks good and putting the phone on it is so much easier than trying to get the connector the right way up every time.

The Laser only works with Qi compatible phones such as the Samsung, HTC and Nokia. Apple devices, it should be noted, do not comply.

For a faster charge on a Qi – from 10 per cent to 90 per cent in three hours for the above-mentioned Samsung phone, the Belkin Boost Up ($110) is also easy to use. It comes in a good looking silver and black disk and is surprisingly thin and light. It can charge through most cases under 3mm thick.

The grippy surface is a great idea to keep your phone from slipping off, but you need to make sure it is placed reasonably centrally on the pad for it to charge properly. A handy light indicator goes green when the phone is correctly aligned, and red if there's an error.
