Samsung's Sound+ MS750 soundbar provides much more than just a step up from the flat, tinny speakers found in most televisions. But is it worth the price?

Samsung's Sound+ MS750 soundbar provides much more than just a step up from the flat, tinny speakers found in most televisions. The unit houses 11 separate speakers, all firing in different directions, to create a cinematic surround-sound experience from a relatively small enclosure.

The MS750 does a great job filling a large room. You can crank this speaker all the way up, and you'll only start to hear clipping and distortion on its loudest setting. It is designed to produce bass deep enough that you won't need to use a separate subwoofer, making the unit easier to slip under a TV or mount to a wall.

The soundbar comes with a simple remote for the most basic functions, and Samsung TV owners will be able to dig into some of the more advanced features, like setting the graphic equaliser presets, directly on their screens.

If you don't have a Samsung telly you can access these features from a mobile app available for Android and iOS. Within it, you'll also be able to connect to the speaker directly via Bluetooth, or connect to multiple speakers over Wi-Fi , and stream Spotify around the house.

Of course, you can add a subwoofer to the mix if you'd like. Samsung has a matching one, the W700, that will recognise and connect to the MS750 out of the box. It adds teeth-shattering bass to the mix, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Once you've factored in the cost of the subwoofer and soundbar, you're getting close to the price of a dedicated home theatre system. Samsung's own Dolby Atmos certified HW-K950 provides much better bang for buck in this price range. That kit, which includes rear speakers and a subwoofer, delivers one the best home theatre experiences of any speaker system.
