A major internet outage hit Optus customers on the National Broadband Network across the country on Sunday.
Optus reported NBN outages in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. No other NBN customers on other providers were effected.
The outage, blamed on a "technical issue," began on Sunday afternoon and continued hours later into the late evening. Optus said services were restored after 11pm.
A stream of Twitter users had reported problems on their NBN home service while at least 1000 complaints were logged by an internet outage site by 7pm.
I have been trying to get through to technical support via phone for hours. It will not put me through to speak to anyone. I want a customer service consultant to call me right now. I am extremely unhappy as a loyal optus customer with many phones and internet connected to optus!

My NBN has been down all day. I’ve been trying to fix it ALL day too. I never log on to Twitter. I found this because I googled it. Try sending a text like you do when you send me your bill!! NBN STILL down btw

Some users wanted compensation for the disruption.
In a statement, Optus apologised to customers and thanked them for their patience.
Correction
An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the outage was on the NBN instead of with the Optus connection to the network.
