Annastacia Palaszczuk’s Labor government looks set to be returned in Queensland with an absolute majority of 47 seats, according to ABC election analyst Anthony Green.

With 83.1% of the vote counted and 100,000 postal votes yet to reach the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ), the ABC’s computer modelling puts the ALP in front in the Gold Coast hinterland seat of Gaven — “beyond doubt” Green says — giving the party a predicted 47 seat majority over the LNP’s 40 seats, although a final result is still several days away.

Federal MP Bob Katter’s Katter’s Australia Party looks set to have two seats, and is currently ahead in Hinchinbrook in the state’s north, with Noosa going to independent Sandra Bolton and One Nation winning Mirani.

Four seats remain in doubt, with the LNP expected to win two of them.

The win would make Palaszczuk the first female premier to be returned to power in Australian history.

But she needs to win outright after pledging during the campaign that she would not do a deal with the crossbench and only govern with a majority.

The deadline for postal votes closes next Tuesday, with a definitive result from the ECQ expected with a day or two after that.
