IT WAS A case of “float like a butterfly, sizzle like a bikini” on Sydney Harbour last night, when online retailer The Iconic hosted the world’s first floating runway show.

The day before summer officially arrived, swimwear brands celebrated summer’s eve by sending 30 models down the catwalk.

Every now and then as the ferries went past, the runway became a little bumpy in the wake, and models occasional struggled to maintain their trademark gait.

Positioned in front of Fleet Steps in the Royal Botanic Gardens, the show debuted the 2017 swimwear collections from The Iconic’s most popular local and international brands, including Camilla, Duskii, Seafolly, Jets, sass & bide, RH Swimwear, Stella McCartney swimwear and Roxy.

Tigerlily — whose designs have been stocked by the online giant for a number of years — was another one of the featured designers.

“We’ve done lots of yellow this season, this collection is our resort collection and it’s called namaste, we’ve based it around the seven chakras,” Tigerlily creative director Amelia Mather told Sydney Confidential in the lead up to the parade.

“This year we’ve done lots of bralettes, which are in between a triangle and a bra, they’ve got a bit more fabric and are more wearable and have been really popular.”

“It’s going to be incredible, Sydney Harbour is one of the most spectacular places in the world, this is going to be a definite fashion first for us, we’re so excited to be part of it.”

Last year The Iconic also pushed boundaries, setting up the runway for its swimwear fashion parade on Bondi Beach.

“The Iconic is dedicated to shining a light on the great swim brands we have in Australia, year on year,” The Iconic’s chief category management officer Marelie Osthus, said.

“Last year’s inaugural Eve of Summer Swim runway show on Bondi Beach was our first step towards bringing our swim and summer collections to life, so we’re thrilled to be unveiling the world’s first floating runway on Sydney Harbour for our 2017 Swim Show.”
