And as Aussies push their couches forward to enjoy the immersive detail of blockbuster Ultra HD content, they are also discovering they no longer need a large lounge room to enjoy a 75-inch television. Bulky screens dominating the room have been replaced by today's super-slim 75-inch televisions designed to hang on the wall like a work of art, rather than sit on a large cabinet which takes up precious space in your lounge room.

Mahdi said the new technology makes a large television practical for even the smallest of lounge rooms.

"Australians have always loved big televisions but they're starting to realise that you don't need to sit further back," he said. “Instead, you want a front row seat when it comes to Ultra HD movies. The new generation of 75-inch Ultra HD televisions are cheaper than ever, but if you want to get what you paid for then you need to sit close enough to see the difference that extra detail makes."

In terms of Ultra HD content, the early scarcity has improved and Australians are now spoiled for choice. Ultra HD video players and game consoles are on the shelves, and you can also find Ultra HD streaming services like Netflix, Stan and Amazon Instant Video built into many of the latest Smart TVs – putting the best Ultra HD content at your fingertips.

There is also "upscaling" to enhance the picture of broadcast TV, Blu-rays or DVDs on a generous 75-inch Ultra HD screen.

Just like smartphones, the latest widescreen televisions have abandoned bezels in favour of an edge-to-edge screen which sits against the wall thanks to a flush mounts. Retailers often offer delivery and installation deals, making it easier to securely hang a big screen on your wall.

The idea is that the television complements the design of your home, Mahdi said, rather than sticking out like a sore thumb.

"Aesthetics are important these days, people don't want a giant black box lurking in the corner of the room," he said. "Modern television design aims to integrate the screen into its surrounds – whether it be your lounge room, rumpus room or bedroom. We've seen this with the launch of Samsung's Frame Lifestyle TV, which has been a massive hit for us because people love the idea of a big screen experience that looks like a piece of artwork rather than a giant television. When a television looks this good, suddenly a 75-inch screen feels right at home in your average lounge room."
