Rather than add a "fake news" button for users to easily report objectionable articles, Google aims to help them become more discerning news readers.

The search giant is adding a new "Full Coverage" section as part of its Google News redesign, unveiled at this week's Google I/O developer conference in Mountain View, California. Coming to mobile devices and the web, Full Coverage isn't just a simple list of all available articles on a topic. Rather, it aims to offer readers a comprehensive and unbiased overview of issues by drawing on content from a variety of respected news sources.

Most importantly, all Google News users will see the same mix of articles for each topic in Full Coverage, chosen by artificial intelligence with no human intervention. The choice of articles is not influenced by the user's reading habits or their preference for particular publications or points of view.

The goal is to present all readers with all the facts, so they can draw their own conclusions, rather than reinforce filter bubbles which ensure their beliefs are never challenged. says Google's VP of News, Richard Gingras.

"There are lots of questions in the news where there is not a single right answer," says Richard Gingras, Google's VP of News.
