Socceroos star Daniel Arzani's season is over and he will miss the upcoming Asian Cup, after confirming he has torn his ACL.

Arzani injured himself last week playing for Celtic in the Scottish Premier Division, although his manager, Brendan Rodgers, and others held out hope the injury might not be too serious.

In a post on Instagram, Arzani confirmed the bad news.

"Thank you to everyone who has taken the time out of their day to show support and love," Arzani told his followers on social media.

"I'm trying my best to reply to everyone but please understand this is also a very tough time for me as I received the bad news today that I will indeed need an ACL op ruling me out until next season."

The former Melbourne City winger joined Celtic in August on a two-year loan from Manchester City.

He made his debut in a 5-0 win over Dundee, coming on in the last 20 minutes.

However, with 10 minutes to go, Arzani attempted to change direction and his leg appeared to give way.

He collapsed to the turf and had to be carried off.

Arzani made a big impression with Melbourne City last year in the A-League, then went with the Socceroos to the World Cup before his move to Scotland.

He was expected to play a big part in Graham Arnold's plans for January's Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Now, however, he will miss the tournament, and play no further part in Celtic's season.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Brad Jones appears set to miss the Socceroos' friendlies against South Korea and Lebanon after suffering a concussion in a sickening clash.

Jones received an inadvertent knee to the head from Al Nassr teammate Bruno Uvini as the shot stopper rushed out in an attempt to prevent a goal in his Saudi Arabian side's 2-0 league loss to Al Ahli.

The former Liverpool gloveman was left unconscious for several minutes before being taken from the field on a stretcher and taken to hospital.

Jones took to social media on Sunday night vowing to make a swift recovery after being discharged.
