Christmas cakes, puddings and other products containing dried apricots have been recalled by a South Australian retailer after complaints about metal fragments found in them.

Charlesworth Nuts is recalling nine of its lines following two complaints to SA Health.

SA Health food director Dr Fay Jenkins said the cause was being investigated and there was no evidence of a deliberate act.

"Metal fragments can be potentially dangerous and cause injury if ingested," Dr Jenkins said.

"Charlesworth Nuts is proactively working with SA Health and Food Standards Australia–New Zealand to remove the affected products from retailers' shelves and notify consumers.

"Charlesworth Nuts is continuing to investigate and some additional products, which are sold under different labels, may be included in the recall."

Charlesworth Nuts has 10 stores in Adelaide and one in Mount Barker, in the Adelaide Hills.

Anyone who has purchased an affected product should check the "best before" date and return it for a full refund.
