Victoria Police has released an image of a vehicle that may have been involved in a fatal hit-run collision in South Geelong this morning.

The incident saw a pedestrian struck from behind at the corner of Yarra Street and Verner Street around 3:15am.

It is understood that the 32 year-old was walking home after a night out with mates.

The driver failed to stop, with passers-by later discovering the man with critical injuries.

The strangers tried everything they could to save him, with one calling an ambulance.

Tragically, the 32 year-old died at the scene.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit have been working fast, with CCTV now released of a van that was seen in the area.

“We would like to speak to the driver of a white Mercedes Vito van that has a decal on the side and is fitted with roof racks,” said Detective Sergeant Stephen Hill.

“The van will have damage to the front passenger side.”
