Unfortunately, some households still found themselves without a working connection during the evening of December 24, leaving one disgruntled customer tweeting: "All I want for Xmas is a reliable connection."

A Telstra spokesman apologised to the disruption for some of the company's customers across Victoria and Tasmania.

"It was caused by some Telstra modems not being able to connect to our network. We know how important it is to be connected, especially this time of year, and apologise to our customers," the spokesman said.

"Our technicians were working on the issue once they were made aware of it. The majority of services were recovered by 6.40am on Christmas Day," he said. Some customers were required to reboot their modem to get their service working again.

Customers of other telcos, such as Singtel Optus and TPG Telecom, also took to social media to query outages on Christmas Eve. It's unclear if these were related issues with the majority of complaints levelled at Telstra (the provider with the largest market share on the NBN).

An NBN Co spokeswoman said there was a "small outage on Christmas Day" impacting NSW and Victorian users. The outage appears to be separate from that affecting Telstra customers.

"This was self-restored on the day and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused for these users," she said.

Optus and TPG have been contacted for comment.
