Nick Kyrgios has downed American third seed John Isner in three tight sets to reach the final of the ATP tour event in Mexico.

  • Nick Kyrgios will face world number three Alexander Zverev in the final
  • Kyrgios needed two hours and 22 minutes to beat John Isner
  • The Australian is chasing his fifth ATP Tour title

The Australian, on his third match point, triumphed 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(9/7) in two hours and 22 minutes in Acapulco.

Kyrgios will face world number three Alexander Zverev in the final after the German's 7-6(7/0), 6-3 victory over Britain's Cameron Norrie.

The 23-year-old has now secured three major victories in the space of a week in Mexico, having already ousted Rafa Nadal and Stan Wawrinka.

Break points and chances were few and far between in steamy conditions on Mexico's Pacific coast, with each player struggling to find that little bit extra.

Isner won more points on serve and return overall but Kyrgios came through when it mattered, particularly in the third set tiebreak, which he finished with a masterful drop shot from the base line.

Kyrgios and Zverev have shared the spoils of their previous six matches with three victories each, but Zverev won their previous two meet-ups.

Second-seeded Zverev has claimed 10 ATP Tour titles since his maiden win in 2016, winning five times in 2017 and four last year.

"It was pretty windy out here, not easy conditions, and his game actually I think fits the wind quite well, so it was not easy," Zverev said after his win.

"At this stage, you've got to win matches, no matter how."
