Trouble sending emails? You're not alone.

Gmail has been hit by an outage affecting users around the world, with outage reports spiking and Gmail users flooding social media to complain about problems sending emails.

Some users are also reporting issues with Google Drive, including spotty performance and certain file types not opening.

According to a message posted on Google's GSuite Status Dashboard at 1:53 p.m. ET, both Gmail and Google Drive are experiencing what it describes as a "service disruption."

"We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail," the message read. "We will provide more information shortly. The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior."

Google had a similar status message for Google Drive.

So what do you do when you're email isn't working? Send out a tweet!

The services still appear to be up for some users (Gmail was working for CNET staff New York and Australia but not for one of our reporters in San Francisco). But the outage is widespread and appears to cover North and South America, Europe and Asia.

Google confirmed the outage to CNET, advising users to check the G Suite Status Dashboard for further updates. We'll also update here if the situation changes.

Either way, you might have an excuse for putting off that annoying email reply for a little longer.

Update 9:20 p.m. PT: Adds update provided by Google.
