Twitter can be a source for breaking news, trending memes, and updates from friends. At the same time, it can feel like a nuisance of knee-jerk reactions and misleading information.
If you’re ready to say sayonara to the social media app, you can easily do so from your iOS device in just a few steps, demonstrated here on an iPhone.
How to deactivate your Twitter account on an iPhone
1. Open the Twitter app on your iOS device. Slide to the right to access the main menu.
2. At the near bottom of the menu, select “Settings and privacy” by tapping.
3. In the “Settings and Privacy” menu, select “Account” right under your Twitter handle.
4. In the “Account” menu, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap “Deactivate your account.”
5. The next three steps are similar to each other – confirming you do indeed wish to deactivate your Twitter account. Once you reach the “Deactivate your account” menu, Twitter gives you the opportunity to download your data, or change which account you wish to delete. At the very bottom the this page, you will find the words “Deactivate” in red letters. If you wish to continue, tap it.
6. Next you will be prompted to enter your Twitter password. Do so, then tap “Deactivate” in the bottom right corner. The option will be bolded once you’ve entered your password.
7. A pop-up should prompt you to finally finish deactivating your account. Remember: Twitter gives you 30 days to reactivate your account by simply entering your prior login credentials. If you wish to proceed, press “Yes, deactivate”. This will then take you to the Twitter login page after successfully deactivating your account.
How to delete the Twitter app off your iPhone
1. To delete the Twitter app off of your iOS device, go to your homescreen. Find the Twitter app and hold it down until it begins to shake. Then, tap the ‘x’ in the top left-hand corner.
2. A pop-up will ask you if you wish to delete the Twitter app and gives you a final opportunity to download its data. To finish, tap “Delete” – and voila! Your account and the app have now been deleted.
