Motorola’s One Vision takes this a step further. Its huge 6.3-inch display has a somewhat awkward 21:9 aspect ratio that felt way too tall for me at first, but because the screen is so narrow I found it just a little easier to use one-handed that my usual phone. Either way, it takes some getting used to, so test one at a store to see if feels comfortable in the hand to you.

The One Vision doubles onboard storage from an already generous 64GB to 128GB, more than enough space for photos, and the camera on the One Vision is greatly improved over the entry level G7.

The 48MP camera is optimised for low light situations, bringing clarity to dark environments without any grain. There’s portrait mode on the front and back facing cameras, and there’s good edge detection, so your hair or shoulders won’t fade into the background with portrait mode on.

Motorola has reclaimed the title of best entry level smartphone with the G7, and the One Vision is a nice upgrade over it if you want a better camera, but need to stay under $500; as long as you can get used to that 21:9 aspect ratio. If your budget can stretch to $649, Google’s Pixel 3a is even better still. The photos from its camera match and even surpass images snapped on phones three times its price. Either way, these days you can get an amazing smartphone on a budget.
