Q: How real is the Daniher trade talk? There doesn’t seem to have been a source from either club yet and most sources are close to him (friends, family). Do you believe Essendon and Sydney are actively talking right now to see if anything is doable?
I do believe Essendon and Sydney have had conversations, yes. I also believe the Swans have known for some time they are in the mix to get him. In short, this is very real. Essendon players now believe he’s more likely to depart. This is so delicate and it looms as the deal of the trade period. I’m not saying it will definitely happen, but I am saying Daniher would like it to happen.
Q: What do you reckon Daniher is worth? I say two first rounders is too much. Would we be able to give the Dons Pick 5 and our second-rounder and keep Carlton’s pick 9? If not Pick 9 and next year’s first-rounder?
Pick 5 and 9 I’d give up for Daniher. Personal opinion. Maybe get a future second rounder back. Tall forwards don’t grow on trees and at his best he could replace Buddy and become a superstar for the Swans. Picks 5 and 9 could be anything really. Especially in this draft.
Q: Is Brad Crouch really worth Pick 2? Surely Pick 15 and 20 get the job done for the Suns.
Depends who you talk to. Crows have every right to ask for whatever they want given he’s contracted and a gun midfielder for them. Lachie Weller for Pick 2 skews the market a touch. It’s a dangerous precedent to set and may hurt the Suns in future.
Q: With Orazio set to leave Essendon, could Essendon potentially get involved with Jack Martin as a replacement? Or is he 100 per cent set on the Blues?
Martin wanted Essendon last year so it’s not a ridiculous leap of faith to suggest he could be a Don if Gold Coast and Carlton don’t agree to terms. What I can say is that the Suns are driving a hard bargain for him. This will not be simple ... At least that’s how it appears currently.
