"As a team we're looking to get a fast start, that's something we want to work on, and as a back rower that's something you can have a big hand in, getting that quick start, then getting a bit of a roll on, building some momentum so we can get a good result," Dempsey said.
"It's definitely something me and Lukhan have talked about, it's his first start of the tournament as well and when we played together in the Samoa (World Cup warm-up) game we talked about it then as well.
"As ball carrying back rowers you have more a of a say than, say, a prop, because you can get the ball in your hands early. The combination we're looking at this weekend is definitely around that kind of stuff."
In the new look line-up David Pocock starts off the bench, with captain Michael Hooper an ever-present running threat from No.7.
There has been recent talk that Australia's ball scavenging specialists Pocock and Tolu Latu have been battling for turnovers during this tournament.
Latu revealed a defending player had to withstand two or more cleanout attempts before snaffling a penalty, but Cheika denied this had influenced the changes.
"We haven’t really talked about that too much," he said.
"It's about wanting to get everyone involved as well and giving them an opportunity to claim a starting spot, but at the same time also we wanted to pick a side more on the ball-carrying front, some bigger bodies in the back row."
Matt Toomua and Tevita Kuridrani pair up in the centres and complete a vintage Brumbies halves and midfield line-up with No.9 Nic White and No.10 Christian Leali'ifano.

Cheika said it was all about asserting Australia's dominance in attack.
"That's two bigger styles of players in the centres so when we get opportunities with the ball, we’ll be looking to play with those guys to get us on the front foot and play some footy from there," he said.
