Sportsgirl/Sussan Group has announced the retirement of group COO Barry Barron (pictured), after 33 years with the company.
Barron joined the group from Woolworths South Africa as CFO. In 1999 he became GM of the newly purchased and financially challenged Sportsgirl for five years before assuming the group COO position in 2005.
In his retirement, Barron will also fill a position of the group advisory board.
As recently as 2018, according to the Australian Financial Review’s Street Talk column, CEO Naomi Milgrom was seeking a buyer for the chain, which industry sources said had an estimated value of $300 million to $400 million.
