It's also fulfilled its own prophecy. About one in ten of the comments that scrolled by during Tones' first-ever livestreamed show were brusque, two-word requests for the song - the kind of pigeonholing that a world tour would have helped break down.
This half-hour performance might yet do the same, as several of its tunes were as good or better than Tones' catchy calling card.
Opener Can't Be Happy All The Time encapsulated her appeal. Lyrics that's she's lived, a melody that meandered into the memory with only a few simple keyboard chords for help, and the whole enterprise enlivened by a remarkable voice that can go from hushed to hurricane.
Next was Never Seen The Rain, for which Tones hit a backing track on her Roland sampling pad, freeing her to give an outstanding rendition of another deeply personal song. Flailing her hands, roaring out the hope implicit in the bittersweet ballad, this was an unguarded performance that was doubtless easier to give with only a pot plant and a camera for company.

"That was really fun for me," she told us.
Tones also debuted two new songs, both keeping to her straightforward, autobiographical style. Leave This Town, about watching her friends move from the Mornington, was compelling thanks to her high, clear voice. But the standout was You're So Fucking Cool, about posers at an L.A soiree she attended.
With its moody bassline, accent on the first beat and vocal with hints of Jamaican dancehall toasting, it changed up the Dance Monkey template just enough to potentially shake Tones' one-hit-wonder tag.
She exhaled deeply before finally playing that hit, with the air of someone who knew exactly what was going on in the comments stream despite not having read it. Tones tried, but it was the show's least convincing performance - she literally checked her watch towards the end.
But when the Dance Monkey diehards watch this show over - "when you're done I'll make you do it all again", indeed - they should find new shades to Tones & I.
