Eastlakes shopping centre in Sydney will open its doors by the middle of next year, as construction progresses on stage one of Crown Group’s $750 million mixed-use residential and retail development.

Stage one of Eastlakes will comprise three buildings on the north side of the development, with a total of 133 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, including four penthouses. It will also have a 2800sqm retail area below, offering 13 outlets including Aldi and Woolworths Metro, as well as a bakery, pharmacy, hair and beauty retailers, a sushi restaurant, a newsagent/post office and a carwash.

Crown chairman and Group CEO Iwan Sunito said the new shopping centre formed the next step in Crown Group’s vision to link iconic architecture with world-class retail brands.

“We have done this successfully at our recent developments in Sydney and we are about to do this again at Eastlakes,” he said. “We will have world-class retail brands operating there from next year.”

The new Eastlakes development is designed by internationally acclaimed architects Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp and the interiors are by Buchan.

Construction of the $150 million stage two shopping centre will start late 2021. Stage two plans include 357 new apartments across five buildings and a new town centre, with a retail and restaurant precinct that includes up to 65 stores, a full-line Woolworths supermarket and a new eat street. Construction is expected to start in late 2021, and is estimated to be completed in stages by 2024.

Crown Group COO Pierre Abrahamse said Crown Group excelled in creating curated retail experiences for its residents, hotel guests and customers.

“Our custom-designed retail precincts offer convenience and choice to the community and a curated dining and shopping experience that enhances the appeal of our residential communities and hotels,” Abrahamse said.

“Ultimately this generates demand from buyers and residential tenants for our apartments while creating a recurrent income stream. It supports the Crown Group brand while attracting good covenant retailers that complement the trade area in which they operate.”
