The Australian dollar has risen Tuesday, trading at 71.24 US cents up from yesterday’s 71.16 US cents at 1735 AEST.

At Friday’s close, the local currency was at 72.22 US cents.

The S&P/ASX200 benchmark index closed lower on Monday by 1.7 points, or 0.03 per cent, at 5926.1 points.

One Australian dollar buys 75.58 Japanese yen from 75.38; 60.52 euro cents from 60.50 euro cents; 54.46 British pence from 54.42 British pence; 107.68 NZ cents from 107.37 NZ cents.
